Internships and Classes in Edinburgh
The main orientation for all students takes place during the first few days the program. Orientation includes informational, cultural, and social activities to acquaint students with each other and with life and business culture in Edinburgh. All aspects of the program are covered in detail during these meetings. In addition, students will attend orientation sessions at the Edinburgh Napier University as well. Internships and classes begin after orientation.
Unpaid, Academic Work-Placements
EPA has developed a strong network of placements across many industries. All students work at their internships for 20 hours per week. EPA is proud to be among the first providers of internships with Members of the Scottish Parliament, and we also offer placements with cultural, charitable, and business organizations. We are always expanding our offerings, and we pride ourselves on our personalized approach.
Computer Science/Technology Internships
Edinburgh is home to many technology companies and start-ups. Internship positions are competitive so expect a Skype interview and assignment to complete before being accepted by an organization. Edinburgh Napier University is the only university that EPA works with that offers many course modules in computer and data science as well as several engineering fields. It is a great chance for semester students to gain invaluable hands-on experience and complete relevant coursework as well.
Healthcare Administration Internships
Healthcare internships are available at non-profits dedicated to health issues such as Alzheimer’s or Multiple Sclerosis as well as organizations promoting health and nutrition education. Due to strict privacy regulations, one-one-one patient care is normally not available.
Marketing/Public Relations Internships
Internships are available in marketing departments for businesses as well as advertising/PR firms. Students with good writing skills have written social media and blog posts and articles for local magazines.
Museum and Tourism Internships
Museum internships offer extraordinary opportunities to work as research and administrative assistants: preparing, mounting, and researching the history and background of objects; recording and cataloguing; as well as designing educational materials, leading school tours and planning and promoting exhibits for arts festivals. EPA has a strong track record with several local museums and galleries for individuals with the right resume. A detailed knowledge of experience in a specific field should be noted in the cover letter.
Political Science/International Relations Internships
Working for a Member of Scottish Parliament provides for an extraordinary immersion into the heart of Scottish politics. Parliamentary interns are engaged in research, correspondence, and constituency casework. Students research local, national, and international issues, and write reports, press releases, subject briefs, and speeches. Those in constituency offices correspond with local constituents through email, letters, and at one-one-one meetings with constituents called, “surgeries”.
When you study at Edinburgh Napier University, you’ll be part of a global community of almost 9,000 international students from over 100 countries. With a multitude of course modules are available, students have a wide array of choices available. EPA semester students choose two course modules from the same school at level SCQF 08 or 09. Please visit Edinburgh Napier University’s website for details.
